When I first came across ARC Tiny Homes, I must admit, I went a little weak at the knees. While I do “have a thing” for tiny homes, they are not all created equal. These designs, the materials used, the fixtures and fittings, the ethos of the company are all big ticks for my own pivoting journey and make them a stand-out in the Tiny Home space.
Wheels or Modular
This is almost the first decision with a Tiny Home - whether to site it on wheels which makes it akin to a caravan and by definition a transportable dwelling. While the need for a permit remains a grey area (often there simply isn’t any legislation that deals with it) many Victorian shires are listening to residents and stating in black and white that permits are not a requirement so long as certain criteria are met, such as;
The property must have an existing home for the extra dwelling to be put there.
Waste water must be dealt with appropriately.
In new legislation passed unanimously in June 2023. the Mount Alexander Shire Council recognise the need to allow Tiny Homes as part of a the solution to the housing crisis.

On-grid and Off-grid options
This is where I really get “off”! Selling property in semi-rural Victoria has provided me with the opportunity to see off-grid set ups in action.
